DPSST Armed Refresher + Defensive Low Light Handgun Tactics
Description
This combined course merges the Oregon DPSST Armed Security Certification Refresher with the Defensive Low Light Handgun Tactics program, offering a comprehensive training experience for armed professionals. Students will complete their required annual DPSST Armed Security Certification Refresher while also advancing their skills in low light environments.
The course is designed for both civilians and professionals who need to maintain certification and expand their tactical proficiency. Participants will engage in live fire exercises, judgmental shooting, and target identification under both daylight and low light conditions.
Course Length
- 14 hours total(8 hours Armed Refresher + 6 hours Low Light Tactics)
Course Topics Include
- Firearm safety & range procedures
- Handgun nomenclature & officer responsibilities
- Legal definitions, proper decision making, and use of force
- Interacting with law enforcement & post-shooting procedures
- DPSST Safe Gun Handling assessment & PQC-1 Handgun Qualification
- Decision-making scenarios
- Flashlight manipulation techniques & escalating force with flashlight
- 4-step weapons presentation & ready positions
- Accuracy analysis & single-hand shooting positions
- Reload techniques with flashlight
- Weapon-mounted light considerations
- Buddy lighting drills & moving off-line drills
Certification & Documentation
Upon completion, students will receive:
- PS-21 Renewal Application(if renewing Armed Security Certification)
- PS-6 Affidavit of Instructor and Private Security Provider Testing Results
- PS-27 Code of Ethics
- PS-23 Change of Information(if applicable)
- Certificate of completion for Defensive Low Light Handgun Tactics (counts toward continuing education training hours)
Note: The nonrefundable state license fee of $94 is separate and must be paid directly to Oregon DPSST.
Required Gear
- Valid government-issued Photo ID
- Semi-automatic duty-sized handgun (.380 ACP, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 Auto – no revolvers)
- At least 3 magazines and magazine pouches
- Holster and magazine pouch
- 450 rounds of handgun ammunition
- Handheld flashlight with pouch or pocket clip (secondary flashlight & spare batteries recommended)
- Belt and suitable clothing (outdoor range – dress for weather)
- Shoes with good lateral support
- Hat with visor, eye and ear protection
- Optional: knee pads, sunscreen, sunglasses, cleaning kit, spare pistol, snacks/drinks

- All firearms must be unloaded and in a case or holster upon arrival.
- Payment is required in advance online or by the first day of class.

- No refunds issued. Full credits remain on account for future use with no expiration date.
