Ron Wittmayer

Instructor / Range Safety Officer

Ron Wittmayer enlisted in the US Army in 1985 and spent 1 year with 82nd Airborne Division where he completed 88 jumps.

He was then deployed to South Korea on the demilitarized zone as a sniper for 4 years and also operated as a sniper instructor at Camp Casey.

While operating as a sniper, Ron also was deployed to Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.

In late 1991, Ron was honorably discharged from the US Army and returned to Oregon where he initially started working as an armed security professional.

During Ron’s time as an armed security professional, he provided security for multiple organizations including mills and organized events, conducted vehicular patrols, and uniformed security services throughout the State of Oregon.

In 1994 Ron was hired by GSA as a Security Contractor to provide uniformed armed security services at the Eugene Federal Building, where he worked alongside various Federal Agencies and ensured the safety of all persons at that location by controlling access and screening individuals entering into the premises.

In addition to going through the Police Academy in Monmouth Oregon, Ron volunteered with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Division and Search and Rescue Team as a recovery diver where he was deployed to recover drowning victims, as well as respond to boating accidents and search and rescue efforts throughout the greater Lane County area.

During this time, Ron was also a certified dive instructor through NAUI and routinely planned, coordinated, and instructed groups of individuals in lectures and open water dive exercises.

Around 2007, Ron moved to Central Oregon and transitioned back into the security industry where he worked as an armored truck driver, as well as working for armed security companies that were based in the greater Bend/ Redmond area.

He then got hired as a retail loss prevention specialist for a national grocery store chain doing internal and external investigations, as the manager of security operations.

In 2009, Ron was hired as a Federal Security Contractor for the US Department of Homeland Security providing uniformed armed security services for IRS buildings, Social Security Offices, and Federal Courthouses.

Ron has been working as an instructor and range safety officer with Defensive Firearms Instruction since 2018.
